Work on machines that build the things people fly in

This is not a simulation problem. The models you train drive real drilling machines into real titanium on a real wing, and a mechanic three feet away will tell you immediately if you got it wrong.

Remote is real, but the line is not optional

Sixteen people work remotely full-time and it works. What is not optional — for any engineering role — is spending time at a station. Every engineer visits a customer line at least once a quarter, and most go far more often.

The reason is simple: a mechanic will tell you in thirty seconds why your recommendation is wrong, and no amount of dashboard-watching will produce that information.

The process, and how long each stage takes

  1. STEP 01

    Intro call

Forty-five minutes with the hiring manager. What you have built, what you want to build, and an honest description of what is hard about this problem.

    Typical wait3 days

  2. STEP 02

    Technical deep dive

Ninety minutes on your actual work — no algorithm puzzles. For applied roles, we work through a real (de-identified) assembly problem together.

    Typical wait5 days

  3. STEP 03

    Line visit

You spend half a day at a customer station with the team. This is as much for you as for us; some people discover they hate factories.

    DurationHalf day

  4. STEP 04

    Decision

Written decision within three business days of the final conversation, with substantive feedback either way.

Yes, most roles

Some roles on defense programs require US citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance. Those roles are marked in the job description, not discovered at offer stage.

Six things that are actually true here

Nobody ships on vibes

Every claim, internal or external, has a measurement behind it. "It feels better" is the start of a conversation, not the end of one.

01

Mechanics outrank models

When the station disagrees with the model, the station is right until proven otherwise. That is not humility, it is empiricism.

02

Safety arguments end debates

Anyone at any level can stop a promotion on safety grounds and does not have to justify it to a schedule.

03

We write things down

Decisions live in documents with the reasoning attached, so a new engineer can reconstruct why the envelope is what it is.

04

Small teams, whole problems

A team owns an agent end to end — perception through control through the station UI. No throwing work over a wall.

05

Boring infrastructure is a feature

The edge runtime is deliberately unexciting. Excitement in industrial software is usually a synonym for an incident.

06

How the team has grown, and where it is going

Three people, three questions, one system

Plant / Operations Director

Owns rate, quality, rework and airworthiness.

“Can I hold takt through the ramp without adding positions?”

Sees: Rate, takt adherence, travelled work, overtime, cost per airframe.

Manufacturing / Liaison Engineer

Owns drilling programs, shimming, fit-up and assembly quality.

“Will this join close in one pass, and what shim do I machine?”

Sees: Predicted gap field, shim geometry, drilling programs, fit-up iterations.

Quality / Airworthiness Engineer

Owns AS9100, hole and fastener conformance and traceability.

“Can I prove every fastener on this airframe was installed to spec?”

Sees: Conformance, NCR flow, FOD events, immutable trace, audit export.

Assembly autonomy, measured on the line

Every figure below is produced by the same telemetry the agents act on — station cycle, hole quality, gap field, fastener state and conformance. Pilot and design-partner aggregate, trailing 12 months.

What changes on the floor

Plant directors, liaison engineers and airworthiness leads on what autonomy did to their numbers.

“We stopped arguing about whether the gap was 0.4 or 0.6 millimetres. The twin predicted it, the shim came off the machine right, and the join closed in one pass.”

Dana WhitlockDirector of Wing Operations, Meridian Aerostructures

−64% shim hours per join

“The rate ramp was going to cost us four more positions. Instead the line rebalanced itself every shift and we found the capacity inside the stations we already had.”

Marcus AdeyemiPlant Director, Final Assembly, Calder Aviation Group

+38% delivered rate

“Every hole is now inspected, not one in four. My airworthiness record writes itself, and I can hand an auditor a complete trace in ninety seconds.”

Questions engineers actually ask

Anything else goes to the people who build it. Ask an assembly engineer or read the full FAQ.

No, and roughly 40% of the team did not have it when they joined. What is required is willingness to learn a physical domain properly — reading tolerance stack-ups, understanding why a countersink depth matters, and being comfortable in steel-toed boots.

No. We look at your actual work and talk through a real problem live. Take-homes select for people with spare evenings, not for people who are good at this.

For most engineering and research roles, yes — with quarterly line visits that are non-negotiable and fully paid for. Field and deployment roles are based near customer sites by nature.

Write to us anyway with what you would want to work on here. Several of the current team created their own role that way, including two of the most senior engineers.

Tell us what you want to build

A line assessment maps one station, quantifies the rework, shim and rate opportunity, and returns a modelled ROI in three weeks. No production disruption.
